STATIC GROUNDING & BONDING

"Static electricity is always present in your plant."

The chances of static build-up, sufficient to create a spark causing explosions, costly fires, property damage and injury to personnel is a constant danger.  Many industrial processes will generate static electricity and grounding is the approved and best way to drain off static charges.

Stewart R. Browne Manufacturing is a world leader in providing proven grounding and bonding methods, mechanical ground clamps and assemblies and electronic verification systems to help the elimination of static charge build-up.

Our grounding clamps and assemblies comply with OSHA standards for properly controlling static charges.  While OSHA does not prescribe how, it does dictate when and where static grounding and bonding procedures must exist.  For instance, when loading or unloading bulk carriers such as tanker trucks or railcars or transferring flammable liquids in five gallon containers, drums or totes.

Our REB2960 grounding clamp is a world standard for grounding or bonding small containers, drums, totes, machinery or personnel in areas containing flammable liquids or dust.  The plier-type clamp has a die cast aluminum body with 2 stainless steel points and a hefty 55 pound spring compression.  This design allows the clamp to penetrate multiple layers of paint or corrosion build-up so that proper contact is made to bare metal.

Our ALS10A ground clamp is very similar in design to the REB2960, however, instead of 2 stainless steel points the ALS10A is designed with plated steel jaws to allow proper contact on to unpainted surfaces, posts or thin materials.  The ALS10A is used in all aircraft fueling or maintenance operations and complies with mil spec M83413/7-1.

Both the REB2960 and the ALS10A are standard components of the various grounding and bonding assemblies that Stewart R. Browne Manufacturing can provide.  See below for specific arrangements.

GROUNDING & BONDING CLAMPS

Stewart R. Browne Manufacturing offers the widest range of static grounding clamps to meet all requirements for proper grounding and bonding of drums, containers, storage cabinets, totes, road tankers, railcars, machinery and personnel.

The GAT aluminum plier clamp offers 3 stainless steel points, making it ideal for grounding road tankers, railcars and barges.

The G40 series of clamps are bronze construction with 2 or 3 stainless steel points for grounding road tankers, railcars and barges.  Quick release harness available on some models.

The JR150  series of pipe clamps are used for grounding or bonding to pipes ranging in size from 1/2" up to 6".  Clamps are bronze construction.

Our series of 'C' clamps are widely used for semi-permanent connections to containers, drums and totes.  Available in galvanized or bronze construction.

Our VUD100 and VUD101 aluminum plier-type clamp is designed for use on 55 gallon drums which have larger rolled rims.  The VUD100 is provided with a quick release harness.

Stainless Steel Clamps: Model VESX02 / Medium Duty Model VESX90 / Heavy Duty For those areas where corrosion, sanitation and wash-down are a consideration for the materials to be used, each clamp offers 316L stainless steel construction with tungsten carbide contact points, suitable for grounding and bonding a wide range of containers, drums, IBC’s and tankers.

RETRACTABLE GROUNDING ASSEMBLIES

Properly storing grounding clamps and cables adds effective life to the grounding or bonding systems by keeping the clamps and cables away from general traffic flow and out of chemical spills.  In addition, the self-storing design provides a safety feature by eliminating the possibility of tripping over loose or tangled cables.  We offer two styles of self-storing assemblies.

The Retract-A-Clamp (RAC) coiled static grounding and bonding assemblies provide a cost effective and easy to use system.  These assemblies incorporate a corrosion resistant, orange vinyl-coated coiled cable and either our REB2960 clamp or another of our series of clamps.  The RAC assemblies with REB2960 clamp use 1/8" cable in 5', 10' and 20' lengths.  The RAC assemblies with either the GAT-P or G40PC clamps use 3/16" cable in lengths of 20' and 25'.

Retractable Static Grounding Reels have long been used as a proper method of storing cables.  The enclosed housing prevents the cable from being exposed to corrosive and harsh elements.  The self-storing design also prevents personnel from tripping over loose cable.  The reels have a self-retracting drum and instant lock mechanism to prevent cable from becoming tangled.
Standard designs come with 3/32" diameter galvanized cable in lengths of 20-ft and 50-ft. Our Heavy-Duty reels incorporate an open design housing and come standard with our REB2960 clamp, 3/32" diameter yellow nylon coated cable guide. Available in 50-ft, 75-ft and 100-ft.

GROUNDING & BONDING ASSEMBLIES

To satisfy the requirements for grounding and bonding of containers, cabinets, drums, totes and other industrial applications, our clamps and cables can be assembled in various configurations.

Our standard assemblies offer 1/8" diameter, flexible stainless steel cable in 3' lengths.  Our REB2960 clamp is incorporated to penetrate multiple layers of paint or corrosion build-up.  For non-painted surfaces or when corrosion is not a problem, copper alligator clips may be substituted for the REB2960 clamp.  Other cable lengths and orange or clear vinyl coated cables are available upon request.

Personnel Grounding Assemblies.  Static charge accumulation on personnel and their clothing can have an adverse affect in the work area or on components such as computer chips or electronic circuit boards.  in these applications it is necessary to properly ground or bond the individual.  We provide personnel ground clamps, wrist straps and conductive cable to satisfy these requirements.

Aircraft Grounding Assemblies.  Stewart R. Browne Manufacturing offers a complete line of aircraft grounding clamps, plugs and cable assemblies.  Our products meet military specifications for proper grounding of aircraft during refueling or maintenance.

Mobile Hazmat Static Ground Kit

Chemical spills and tanker rollovers involving flammable or combustible materials may cause problems for responding hazmat teams, particularly if electrostatic charges can build-up. Unless proper grounding and bonding procedures and equipment are implemented, a static spark can cause fires, explosions and personnel injury. The Mobile Hazmat Ground Kit enables the responding hazmat team to have a portable, self-contained and easy to setup, static grounding and bonding kit containing the necessary components to help dissipate the electrostatic charges to “ground”. The kit, model MHK2005, includes: ·        Modular ground rods. ·        Tool for driving and removal of ground rods. ·        Two (2) 25-ft, spiral ground cables and clamp assemblies. ·        Rugged carrying case.
